LIFE & WORKING HISTORY
Willie left school at 15 years old, shortly afterwards he enrolled at the West of Scotland agricultural college studying pasteurisation and laboratory control. He then went on to join the 15th Parachute Regiment (TA) as a boy piper. After
training he transferred to the Yeomanry and then to the Royal Scots Greys, he moved up the ranks and received a Queens commission which he held for ten years. Willie had a variety of jobs including civil servant, a Gleneagles hotel manager and a Scotrail manager.

LEISURE & HOBBIES
Willie did charity and volunteering for many years with the street soup kitchen and the detox safety house in Glasgow. He was vice chairman and chairman of the Royal Scots Dragoon Guards association for 50 years and was rewarded by being made a life member after 25 years service and a gold member after 50 years. Willie and his wife Anne have fostered and adopted 54 children in Glasgow over a period of 30 years, one of whom joined and is a regular feature of Lodge Clyde.

MASONIC HISTORY
Willie started to know about Lodge Clyde from about six or seven years old when he was taken on day trips Doon The Watter and to Balloch park with his parents and grandparents. At that time he also had three uncles in Lodge Clyde, so there was plenty to talk about at home as to the next meeting or visitation.

He also remembers getting roller skates at one Christmas at the age of about seven from the Lodge. Willie followed his big brother into Clyde ( our present Senior wardens Father and tonight's candidates Grandfather), Willie's Grandfather
was his proposer (Willie Melville) his seconder was his uncle (Willie Melville). His Dad was in Australia but came home to see him go through his first degree. During Willie's Army service years he could not make regular meetings but he never forgot his Mother Lodge and the principles he had been taught by the craft. After some years of doing voluntary charity work he returned to attending his lodge as his health was feeling the effects of the cold and wet weather. He became a junior office bearer and progressed through the offices becoming Right Worshipful Master in 2015 -16.

He was made an Honorary member of Lodge The Gael 609 in 2011 and an
Honorary member of Lodge The H.L.I. The Royal Highland Fusiliers No. 1459 in
2021

Willie is proud to be member of Clyde and has never thought any other Lodge or
Orders of which he is a member her superior.
